“Starting the day I take the Oath of Office, I will rapidly drive prices down and we will make America affordable again.”37

Why it’s on the record. In his Time Person of the Year interview (published Dec. 12, 2024) he said of grocery prices: 'It's hard to bring things down once they're up.' BLS data show food-at-home prices kept rising through 2025, up about 2.4% over the year to December 2025. The White House still listed the pledge as 'PROMISE KEPT' in a Nov. 5, 2025 press release.
