Why it’s on the record. At trial, prosecutors showed that cash in the home was not from his bank and that envelopes were tied to co-defendant Fred Daibes. In July 2024 a jury convicted Menendez on all 16 counts, including bribery, extortion and acting as an agent of Egypt. He resigned in August 2024 and was sentenced in January 2025 to 11 years in prison.
