“…if it looks like to me, Chuck, we're adding one penny to the deficit, I am not going to be for it.”52
52Sen. Bob Corker, U.S. Senator, Tennessee; Chairman, Senate Foreign Relations Committee, NBC News interview with Chuck Todd; exact date unconfirmed, October 1, 2017. Source
Why it’s on the record. Corker was the only Republican to vote no on the Senate bill on Dec. 2, 2017. On Dec. 20, 2017, he voted YEA on the final conference version of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (roll call vote 323), which the Joint Committee on Taxation projected would add about $1.4 trillion to deficits over ten years.
On the record
Corker called himself a deficit hawk and said he would oppose any tax bill that added to the deficit.
